Abstract: This presentation aims to outline the approach utilised and the learnings that were gained from undertaking a 12 month service development project in the Werribee Mercy Mental Health Program (WMMHP), which is an adult area mental health service in Victoria. The presentation will firstly outline the background to carrying out the project, the approach used within the project and the outcomes achieved at the local level. Then the presentation will focus on what was learned about managing a change process that could be recommended to others. Whilst the strategic model for mental health service delivery that we developed is worthy of a presentation on its own, it is the approach to determining and managing change in the mental health program that I wanted to share. This is because this would seem to have the most relevance to other mental health organisations that are often struggling with the need to continually change and develop in a complex environment.
