Abstract: Caulfielf Aged Psychaitry Service is a pscyiatric outreach service for the elderly of Inner South East Melbourne. Founded in 1995, it comprises a 15-bed acute admission ward, a 20 bed psychogeriatric nursing home, a multidisciplinary community team known as the Mobile Aged Psychiatry Service. Programs within the service include a "Memory Disorders CLinic". a consultant liaison service, a "transcultural program', family therapy service and mobile clinic. There is a stsrong emphasis on education. THe unit has attracted extra funding for innovative programs such as a "ward-based community orientation program", General Practitioner involvement in the Memory Clinic and research into the mental health needds of patients admitted to a geriatric assessment ward. For the past 3 years, the service has been running a highly successful project entitled "theBehaviour Support Team" for patients who have dementia, are living in nursing homes or hostels and who have behavioural disturbance. Description of Facility/Organisation: 15 bed acute aged psychiatry admission ward. 30 bed psychogeriatric nursing home. Multidisciplinary Mobile Ages Psychiatry service. Behavious Support Team. Serves approx. 40,000 over 65 years of age. Inner South East of Melbourne catchment area containing the highest degre of psycho-social disability in Melbourne and a huge population including 9,000 people affected by the Holocaust.
