Abstract: “The fight is won or lost far away from witnesses – behind the lines, in the gym, and out there on the road, long before I dance under those lights.”
Muhammad Ali.

And so it has been for me although the locations have been different and the achievements much less grand than the renowned boxer.

On the first of August 2001 I was detained under the Mental Health Act and my new life began. Four years and four months later having completed a Diploma Of Counselling and a nursing re-entry program I returned to the ward I had been detained to. This time I commenced work as a registered nurse / student mental health nurse. I have completed the Graduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing. My Bipolar Affective Disorder is considered in remission.
What has it really taken to stay well?
What did I need to do?
Take time, develop, change.
