Abstract: A partnership project funded by the Victorian government and involving seven Mental Health Community Support Services (MHCSS) aimed to contribute to improving the physical health of people living with severe mental illness by piloting a physical health screening tool across Gippsland in regional Victoria. The project drew upon Victorian Department of Health’s guidelines to embed consumer and carer participation in the planning and evaluation of the project. This enabled consumers and carers to make a meaningful contribution by ensuring their feedback informed each stage of the project. A mixed methods evaluation of the project suggests that reference group members and pilot participants benefited from the process.
