Abstract: Country versus City - obstacles and challenges from the perspectives of participants and staff of the Dubbo and Eurobodalla Personal Helpers and Mentors Program. The paper explores how participants recovery relates to the opportunities of their rural environment, what is enjoyed and what is missed. The presentation identifies and explores many common, yet intricate issues faced by both staff and participants. Examples will be given of day to day experiences that highlight the differences between areas, of etiquette and language approaches and types of communications that are commonplace, acceptable and relevant in the regional service setting but which may be regarded as inappropriate in the metropolitan service setting. Examples/cases explored in this presentation are based on some experiences of the Dubbo PHaMs Service provided by Schizophrenia Fellowship of NSW.
