Abstract: My name is Kaz Mitchell, and I co-facilitate with Kate Ellis a group called ‘Creative Expression’ which is the subject of this paper. The setting for this group is a psycho-social rehabilitation program within the Prahran Mission in Melbourne.

This paper will look at why there was seen to be a need for this kind of group in our particular setting, give an outline of how the group works and the role of the two facilitators, show slides of work produced in the group and quote reflections from group members, briefly mention the theory from which we draw relating to art therapy and group work, and provide an overview of how a group like creative expression can assist in a persons recovery from the effects of mental illness.
