Abstract: TSRU began in July 1992. It is managed by consumers in partnership with an Occupational Therapist and a Psychologist. We have formed a small business called Teneriffe Progressive Industries under which we earn money and increase our work skills. The jobs for which we earn money include mowing private lawns, yard work, car washing, cleaning houses and plant watering. Other activities include a gardening co-op, accounts, book and library work. TSRU Management Group meets weekly to discuss and organise current job contracts, upcoming events and to chose volunteers when needed. Description of Facility/Organisation: TSRU is a service of Vallet Community Mental Health (Qld Health) Service (VCMHS). It is situated in a house at Teneriffe. It is a prevocational unit, and is a stepping stone between the Psychiatric Assessment Rehabilitation Unit, Commonwealth Rehab Service and the workforce. It is open to all consumers of VCMHS. Weekly meetings are attended by a variable group of about 15-20.
