Subject: Integration of a Regional Peer Work Framework to strengthen and embed the peer workforce
Type of resource: Conference Presentations and Papers
Abstract: Mental Health Peer workers are integral to systemic change in the public mental health system. The changes at an organisational level help to promote human rights and practical ways for organisations to be trauma-informed, recovery oriented, strength based and person-centered.
A Regional Peer Work Framework was created to help ensure that peer work was better understood in the region and provide a scaffolding for the emerging peer workforce.
This framework was created by 70 peer workers in the Southern NSW region across Community Managed Organisations and Public Sector Peer workers.
Implementation Plans for this framework help to showcase how the framework can be utilised in a practical and purposeful manner. Southern NSW Local Health District will showcase some of the ways in which the framework was created, what the framework means to the region, how an Implementation Plan is utilised locally.
Learning Objective
Learn about the first Regional Peer Work Framework in Australia and practical ways to utilise frameworks to help strengthen and empower the peer workforce in regions. The Framework for Mental Health Lived Experience (Peer) Work in South Eastern NSW will be discussed and delved into.
