Abstract: In 2004, St.Vincent’s Mental Health (Melbourne) identified the need for a more consumer-centred recovery-based focus, and began planning for a major change management process in all programs of the area mental health service. Implementation was carefully staged to maximise attitude and practice change throughout the multi-disciplinary staff. Key success factors were adoption of a compatible model - the Strengths model of case-management, endorsement by senior medical staff and management, and extensive ongoing training utilising a train-the-trainer approach.
