Abstract: The Health of the Nation Outcomes Scales (HoNOS/HoNOS 65+) are being implemented across Queensland Health as part of the National Outcomes and Casemix Collection. Applying these measures to consumers from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds is likely to present difficulties for mainstream mental health staff. In response to this, Queensland Transcultural Mental Health Centre (QTMHC) is currently undertaking a project to investigate the process involved in the completion of the measures with CALD consumers and the problems encountered by mental health staff. To achieve this, a mixed methodology comprising quantitative and qualitative methods has been utilised and multi-level data collection strategies have been implemented. The research project has been conducted in selected Queensland Health service districts and the targeted consumers are adults aged 18 and over. One of the main objectives of the project is to develop guidelines and training resources to support mental health staff in administering the HoNOS and HoNOS 65+ with CALD consumers.
