Abstract: Ensuring that carers and family members are meaningfully involved in the care and treatment of mental health consumers, and that service delivery is sensitive to their needs is an essential feature of good mental health practice. The paper briefly outlines past approaches to family involvement, and describes the strategies utilised by St.Vincent’s Mental Health Service in Melbourne to improve family and carer participation.
