Abstract: The production of human throwaways has thus become a planetary phenomenon. “The problem of capitalism”, the most striking and potentially most explosive disfunction of the capitalistic economy, has shifted, in its current planetary stage, from exploitation to exclusion. It is exclusion, and not exploitation as hypothesised by Marx a century and a half ago, which today underlies the most glaring cases of social polarisation, of an inequality which is ever more profound and made up of increasing volumes of human poverty, misery and humiliation.
