Abstract: This paper shows how my mentally ill daughter inspired me to become a public speaker and advocate for mental health by first becoming a speaker herself. Her mental health benefited from the practice of advocacy and prompted me to join her and share our story as mother and daughter, carer and consumer. Twelve years later our closeness has strengthened our relationship at the same time strengthened our individuality.
