Abstract: The Monash Medical Centre Mother-Baby Program specialises in the care of severley mentally ill mothers and their infant within a specialised inpatient service. The multidisciplinary team formulates individualised biopsycho-social management plans to meet the needs of the mother, the infant, the mothe-infant interaction, the partner and the extended family. The service offers the ideal environment of a stand alone service with psychiatry service attached to an obstetric hospital. The service is very efficient and cost effective, with 90 women and their infants admitted every 12 months, and with good outcomes. Description of Facility/Organisation: The Mother Baby Program (MBP), situated at Monash Medical Centre, serves a statewide popualtion, focused mainly on the south and eastern areas of Melbourne and of Victoria. The MBP cares for up to six seriously mentally unwell mothers and their infants ina a specialised separate unit within a 600 bed tertiary general hospital
