Abstract:

It is well known and long established that physical health and mental health are interrelated, and that people with poor mental health are more likely to experience poorer physical health than the rest of the population, due both to the side-effects of medication, as well as a greater exposure to lifestyle risks. This paper reports on an innovative new Exercise Physiology service embedded within a recovery-focussed youth mental health service in Melbourne. We describe the background to, implementation of, and challenges associated with the delivery of this new, much-needed service.
