Abstract: Open Mind is a quality publication that has done much to raise the informed awareness of mental health issues in Tasmania and to integrate a dispersed sector. The journal's first focus is consumers, and it included first-hand accounts of the experience of mental illness and means people have found to cope. It campaigns for new and better services, regularly contains reports on research projects in which readers have an interest but are unlikely to read in their entirety, and accounts of new treatments and programs. Its newsletter functions inform self-help groups of what is being done in each region. It is edited by Elaine Reeves, who has both 30 years' experience as a journalist and personal experience of mental illness from which to draw. Description of Facility/Organisation:
