Abstract: Transcultural groups are diverse in their perceptions of mental health. Community forums can be an effective mechanism to help reduce stigma of mental illness within cultures, provided the information is culturally specific and appropriate. This paper outlines the community mental health forums developed for the Canterbury Local Government Area (LGA) to help increase awareness of mental illness, reduce stigma and improve support for carers and consumers.
