Abstract: This paper outlines the unique and innovative Mental Health Program at the Inner South Community Health Service. It seeks to explore the provision of a flexible and responsive Mental Health Service model within a primary health framework. This paper questions traditional notions of accessibility and explores the challenges of supporting people with a serious psychiatric disability to maximise mental health, social participation and independence.
The comprehensive model of intensive case management adopted at the Inner South Community Health Service takes ‘mainstreaming’ to the next level, providing a substantive framework to base future directions in community mental health.
