Abstract: Many mental health consumers have poor physical health compared to others, and few consumers receive integrated care. This situation could be attributed to the lack of attendance at general practitioners (GPs). The project aims to assess the physical health of these consumers, and encourage the local mental health service and GPs to provide integrated care. Forty-nine continuing care consumers participated. Consumers underwent physical health reviews, and GPs and the local mental health service care planned and case conferenced. Findings indicate 75.5% of consumers attend GPs regularly. The incidence of a range of newly diagnosed health conditions found in consumers, as well as health risk factors are presented. Contrary to expectations, some health aspects appear better than previously recorded elsewhere (e.g., impaired glucose tolerance), whereas other aspects (e.g., smoking) remain high. Future activity needs to address the health aspects of concern using illness prevention and health promotion activities.
