Abstract: Specific support groups for carers of people with personality disorders have been available in Melbourne for a few years. Many carers have indicated that, in addition to support, they need specific skills to support their loved ones in ways that are likely to be helpful. This paper describes a process of piloting skills training workshops to carers of people with personality disorders in carer support groups and carer workshops in Melbourne. Initial feedback from various carer forums is positive. The overseas literature on skills training groups for BPD carers is briefly reviewed. Options for organising support and skills training groups locally are discussed, in the light of local and overseas evidence. Program content, funding and other details are considered.
