Abstract: Occupational therapists in a forensic mental health facility observed that their consumers regularly face significant challenges around disclosure within their community, potentially limiting opportunities to successful community reintegration. An exhaustive review was conducted and data collected from 33 studies were critiqued and collated into best practice recommendations in line with relevant legislation. Most data identified focused on employment contexts. Further, evidence supported individualised, strengths-based approaches and the use of disclosure tools. Recommendations include mental health workers and consumers selecting preferred strategies and making a plan around disclosing personal information.
