Abstract: Reflections Art Studio (RAS) is a therapeutic arts service, providing art facilities and instruction for people with persistent mental illness living in the community. RAS is a public statewide mental health service. RAS is founded on the belief that art is life sustaining, that people are inherently creative and they use their creativity for personal healing and recovery. RAS also offers an Indigenous art therapy service for Indigenous people with a range of mental health issues, using an Indigenous art therapist to facilitate this program. People attending this presentation will learn how RAS’s art therapy model successfully supports people’s recovery and how art for healing is integral to Indigenous people’s mental health and cultural history.
