Subject: Cracks in the ice: Illicit drugs and the mental health impact on our communities.

Type of resource: Audio

Abstract: Kevin Gournay brings an international perspective to the discussion of co-occurring mental health and substance use problems.

He was surprised by the emphasis on Ice in Australia because there is a bigger emphasis on alcohol harm internationally. Is our reaction out of proportion? Gournay says we need to break down professional silos: Alcohol & drug workers need to screen for mental health problems and mental health workers need to screen for drug problems.

Kevin Gournay is an Emeritus Professor of Psychiatric Nursing at the Institute of Psychiatry at
King’s College London.
