Abstract: The achievement of successful housing solutions for people with a mental illness or psychiatric disability has become a focus for the Queensland Government’s Department of Housing. Providing a housing service to people with a mental illness or psychiatric disability that results in successful housing solutions and tenure has been identified as a major difficulty by the Department for front line service delivery staff. The Interagency Collaboration Improvement Project is the strategy that has been chosen to improve the Department’s housing assistance to people with a mental illness or psychiatric disability. Achieving sustainable housing for people with a mental illness or psychiatric disability is a complex issue that often requires tailored solutions designed to meet the specific housing needs of an individual. The Department has learnt, and community concern has confirmed, that people with a mental illness or psychiatric disability who access housing assistance, often only come to the attention of staff when tenancy maintenance issues are evident.
