Abstract: The Geelong Hospital Psychiatric Services provides a comprehensive range of mental health services based on continuity of care, case management, consumer involvement and crisis prevention. In spite of a 12% operational budget cut over three years, services have been recognised and integrated to achieve a 38% increase in patients treated and a 160% rise in community based contacts, resulting in the lowest inpatient treatment ratio in Victoria. Many of the services have led the way with innovative features, including the Community Rehabilitation Facility and Day Treatment Centre, while the effectiveness of services has been enhanced by successful general practitioner and family education programs. Description of Facility/Organisation: Service comprises a 24 acute bed ward, 24 bed community care unit, 4 community mental health multidisciplinary teams, a day treatment centre, child adolescent service and crisis, consultation liaison services.
