Abstract: This paper introduces an innovative clinical initiative in the Northern Sydney and Central Coast Local Health Districts – the Hearing Voices Recovery Group –that has resulted in a truly collaborative synergy between clinicians and consumers in facilitating individual recovery. It tells the personal story of Sam, one consumer’s involvement as a co-facilitator and her ongoing recovery of citizenship. Initial qualitative data collected indicates that participants have found the expert voice hearer to be a highly beneficial and critical aspect of the group. She is viewed as a positive example of possibilities in relation to recovery and voice hearing, particularly in relation to the valuable role she performs in the community and her capacity to reframe the voice hearing experience.
