Early intervention in psychosis services are well articulated and have a developing evidence base
We are coming to understanding both their strengths and limitations
Males with social difficulties predating the first onset of psychosis are among those who are not responding well to early psychosis services and deserve renewed attention in research and service planning
In terms of managing risk of harm to self and other, it is important to determine whether antisocial behaviour predating psychosis onset is a risk factor for psychosis or a characteristic of the prodromal period. That is, is violence risk part of the illness or is it a separate and largely independent risk factor? Max argues that antisocial behaviour predating FEP acts as a risk factor for acting on positive symptoms such as command hallucinations.
