Type of resource: Conference Presentations and Papers

Abstract: With the understanding that many people experiencing severe and persistent mental illness lack the opportunity to engage in their favourite social activities such as meeting up for a cup of coffee, or going to the movies on a Friday night, Out There! provides opportunities to make this happen. The project provides mental health consumers with enjoyable and satisfying ‘stuff to do’, whilst building meaningful relationships with like-minded people for an opportunity to meet the need of ‘warm human touch’. The following paper outlines the aims and implementation of Out There!, focusing on the key learnings of this capacity building project, which challenges the way the mental health sector addresses the unmet social needs of mental health consumers.
