Abstract: Consumer and carer participation aims to enhance the quality of mental health service delivery. In recognising this it is essential that services provide relevant support, education and training to facilitate participation. In order to assist consumer and carer participants with navigating their way through the Cairns Integrated Mental Health Service (CIMHS) and increasing their knowledge and skills to enhance their capacity as participators, the development of an orientation resource was identified as a priority. As a result the CIMHS supported the establishment of a project team to facilitate this development. The project team represented the collaborative partnership that exists between the CIMHS and the Cairns Consumer and Carer Advisory Group (CCCAG). This paper outlines how the Service reached the goal it set out to achieve through such a partnership.
