Abstract: The Mental Health Program, Housing and Support Service provides long term secure and affordable housing, client-focused support and community integration to people with long term mental illness. It is a unique service staffed by a multidisciplinary and professional team able to provide case management and housing support to 50 clients. The service has developed in response to the very special needs of the local community, which has a greater number of people experiencing mental illness, homelessness, and drug and alchohol related problems than the metropolitan average. Description of Facility/Organisation: The Inner Community Health Service provides a range of community health services specifically designed to meet the needs of the local area, which includes the Cities of Prt Phillip and Stonnington and part of Glen Eira. This area has a population of approximately 206,000 (ABS 1991). The services include: mental health; ageds and disability services such as physiotherapy, podiatry, community nursing, social work and occupational therapy; women's, children and family services; youth health; general health such as counselling, dentistry and dietics; alcohol and drug services and HIV/AIDS prevention.
